Midnight Runners — an action comedy starring Park Seo Joon and Kang Ha Neul about two rookie police students witnessing a kidnap, and tried to take matters into their own hands when the police force face obstacles and had to halt the investigation.
In recent years, I have watched aplenty heavy themed Korean movies, so I wouldn’t mind a change to light romance or comedies for the rest of this year, and this one looks really promising. It also reminds me of the old American movie, Police Academy. It can be quite fun and inspiring to watch them playing rookies facing difficulties in training, fumbling through the crime case and eventually grow to be a competent and experienced detectives.
Park Seo Joon is Hwang Ki Joon, a man of action. The typical, act before thinking type, whereas Kang Ha Neul plays Kang Hee Yeol, who is a nerd (as shown by the glasses) and more of a think before doing anything kind. In other words, they are a total opposite of one another. Yep, it sounds quite typical of their characters, but that’s where the fun and chemistry comes from, hehehe.
This movie is Park Seo Joon’s first lead role, and the second time playing a police. His first police role was in Chronicles of Evil, and turns out to be a twist in the end, which I quite like. It’s worth checking it out if you haven’t seen.
